I have been privileged to perform this beautiful, moving work for many years during Holy Week. St. Mary’s Oak Bay is a welcoming parish and no matter your faith or belief, please join us for this special concert. Admission is by donation and the concert will last approximately one hour.
“The Confession Stone" was written for Canadian contralto Maureen Forrester in 1966 by Canadian composer Robert Fleming and set to the text of African American poet Owen Dodson. It is "Seven Songs of Mary", depicting Christ from birth through crucifixion. Maureen used to take copies of the score with her wherever she went to give to students who had a genuine interest in learning the work. I will be accompanied by Jim Hill on piano.
Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater will be performed by my good friends Marnie Setka-Mooney and Sara Partridge. They will be accompanied by Curt Bergen on Organ.
This concert is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend, teacher, mentor, and churchwarden Catherine Young. All donations will go to The Victoria Bereavement Hospice Fund.
